Shayne and I first met when we were just 12 years old in junior high. My family had recently moved to Washington from Texas in the summer of 2016. We quickly became good friends, sharing classes and talking almost every day. Although Shayne and I were very close, I never imagined that one day we would start dating—much less that she would become the love of my life and my soon-to-be wife.

When we reached ninth grade, we ended up attending different schools, and over time our friendship gradually faded. We no longer talked or saw each other the way we once had, though I often found myself wondering how she was doing.

In the summer of 2022, shortly after I graduated from high school, I was surprised when Shayne reached out to rekindle our friendship. We started spending time together that summer, going on walks and exploring new places. Before long, I realized I was falling in love with her.

Ever since that summer, Shayne and I have enjoyed building our lives together. We have spent our time trying new things, making memories, and continuing to learn more about each other every day. She is the sweetest woman I know—patient, understanding, and always supportive, even through my silliness and shortcomings.

I thank God for Shayne every day, and I would not change a single thing about how we met or the journey that brought us together. Today, I am excited to say that I get to spend the rest of my life with this incredible woman.
